Fudging

I see you have been undoing certain edits here, saying you are reverting the "fudging of published source". If these are verbatim quotes from a previously published source, then that source should be cited (i.e., where are these definitions coming from?). Even in such a case, I see no reason the lists cannot be wikified (using "#" to format & autonumber the list items). The use of serial line breaks (<br><br>) in the versions you are reverting to is very "nonstandard". Why not use proper wiki markup? - dcljr (वार्ता) ००:०८, ७ जुलाई २०१९ (UTC)

@Dcljr: From what I know this Hindi Wiktionary imports definitions from Shabdasgar (much like the Sanskrit Wiktionary, which does it from multiple sources). The imported/Shabdasagar definitions are kept in a separate section so as to not mix them up with the user added entries. They are put under the Shabdasagar sub-heading on a page and categories are added for that. "Wikifying" these entries would make them amenable to edits which are better put to use in the non-published user added entries. Gotitbro (वार्ता) ००:२१, ७ जुलाई २०१९ (UTC)

Hmm. OK, but since everything in this wiki is "amenable to edits", trying to prevent changes merely by smooshing a bunch of text together in one paragraph is, I think, bound to fail as a long-term strategy. I would recommend using one or more templates to format the text in a special way (e.g., as a blockquote), including a citation of the source and a link to a relevant Wikipedia article (preferably, in Hindi — BTW, the link to Shabdasgar leads nowehere, as do w:Shabdasgar and w:शब्दसागर). And I would recommend using normal wiki markup (lists, blank lines separating paragraphs, etc.), as appropriate, in addition to these other methods. - dcljr (वार्ता) ०१:०८, ७ जुलाई २०१९ (UTC)

@Dcljr: Honestly, I am not much familiar with wiki markup and I do not know how these definitions were imported here. Though as a reader I found them pretty useful (especially when you are jumping between different Wiktionaries, e.g. English<->Hindi) and was trying to prevent unintended edits here. Your suggestions do sound very apt though, maybe one of the admins can take up the things you mentioned above.
